(Note: This article is Part Two of a Four Part Series. Please click here if you missed Part One)

Creating an action plan first requires distinguishing the goal itself from your To-Do List (TDL). Goals result from passionately connecting your inner purpose with a clear vision filled with possibility. TDLs illustrate all the steps involved in the achieving of your goal. Goals ignite excitement. They give you goose bumps. TDLs are tasks or chores. They are unavoidable steps required before realizing your dreams. After you have distinguished your goal from your TDL, it’s time to outline an action plan.

To begin your action plan ask yourself the following questions:
  • Where would I like to be in one year?
  • If that is possible within one year, what else might be possible for my future?
  • What would I do if I could not fail?
After you've gotten some clarity on where you'd like to see yourself in one year, you can outline a chronological plan of action.
  • Pinpoint your one-year goal
  • Work backwards and outline 9, 6, & 3 month milemarkers
  • After your mile markers are identified, you can fill in your action plan with all the required to-dos.

That's it!

Don't wait! Take action now!

Stay Tuned For Part 3...

Note From Holdon Log

Using PerformerTrack To Achieve Step #2

We heard that many of you wanted to get a jump into figuring out what it is that you want to attain in 2010.

We heard:

  • Spending equal time on the business-side
    and the craft-side

  • Having a short film to submit to festivals

  • Updating my marketing materials
    (headshots, website, business cards, etc.)

Whatever your goal is, we suggest today (the day that you are reading this article) that you create your Action Plan in your PerformerTrack account!

Create Your 1-Year Ultimate Goal Date...

STEP 1) Open the Calendar in your PerformerTrack account and go forward 1 year.

STEP 2) Click on the plus sign ("+") for that date to Add an Appointment.

STEP 3) In the "Appointment Name" field box note the Ultimate Goal you want accomplished in a year.

For Example...

Your Ultimate Goal might look like this:

12 Month Goal Date:
December 16, 2010

"Marketing Materials In Action".

STEP 4) In the "Appointment Type" select "To Do"

STEP 5) In the "Priority Area" set the priority to "High"

STEP 6) Leave the "Start Time" & "End Time" fields blank

STEP 7) "Save" the appointment!

THEN...Add Your "Milemarker" Dates...

Find the 9, 6 and 3 month "Milemarker" dates and repeat the steps outlined above to Add an Appointment for each of these dates with the milemarkers you must hit in order to achieve your ultimate goal. Make sure to set the "Appointment Name" as "Milemarker" for each entry.

For Example...
Your Milemarkers might look like this:

9 Month Milemarker Date:
September 16, 2010

"New Headshot Online, Business Cards back from Printer, 1st Issue of Newsletter Ready to Send, Website Active with a plan for continuous updates"

6 Month Milemarker Date:
June 16, 2010

"Photos shot for Headshots, Business Cards, Newsletter and Website"

3 Month Milemarker Date:
March 16, 2010

"Current Marketing Materials Evaluated, Budget for updating in Plan"

Achieving Your 1st Milemarker...

Now ask yourself how are you going to get from Day 1 to having your 1st Milemarker completed? Will it take a "Daily" or "Weekly Appointments"?

Again, create the "Appointment Name" as something pertaining to this 1st Milemarker you are set out to achieve. Now use PerformerTrack's "Repeat Appointment" feature for the three months to your 1st Milemarker.

Use "Daily" or "Weekly" appointments to focus ONLY on the "To Do" tasks that need to be done.

Select the time you need...a half-hour to make calls, an hour to write, a few hours to go through your files and folders.

In Closing...

Now that you've taken the time to set your Action Plan you can see the small steps that you can start taking NOW to get you toward that Ultimate 1-Year Goal and when that date approaches in your PerformerTrack Account let us know what you accomplished and that you are REALLY an Action Taker!
