Red Carpets can be fun. They can be a great way to meet the media, let your fans know what you are working on, and gather your cast and crew to celebrate everyone’s contributions... but if the event is produced by someone new to producing these types of events, Red Carpets can quickly become a disaster.

In Part 4 of this "Red Carpet Ready" article series we would like to discuss two big problems with red carpet events and our solution.

PROBLEM #1 - Bottlenecking

One problem we’ve experienced is the bottlenecking of the line as it approaches the carpet. This can leave guests standing on the sidewalk... waiting and waiting... quite possibly bumping them from their time to walk the carpet as the photographers and video crews have packed up and gone to the next event.

PROBLEM #2 - Unidentified Red Carpet Photos

The other is the fact that red carpet photos are circulating the web not tied to the talent, director, producer or project. If this has happened to you, you know it’s disappointing that fans can’t quickly find your latest appearances online... and, as for your producers, they know that generating project buzz is what keeps things going as new awards are received, new episodes are released, etc.

THE SOLUTION

Leave it to us to come up with a quick, easy, organized solution. Introducing...

Here’s what to do to prepare for your next red carpet event:

Step 1: Go to RedCarpetTipSheet.com

Step 2: Print out a copy for yourself, your guest/date (if they are in The Biz), your cast members and producers (They’ll LOVE you!)

Step 3: Attach one of your promo postcards/photos in the space provided.

Step 4: Take a big, thick Sharpie and write legibly Your Website, First & Last Name, The Show You Are Promoting with your Role Name or What Your Contribution is to the Production. If you are not a part of the production and you are there self-promoting, then list a few current or memorable credits.

Step 5: Place this Red Carpet Tip Sheet and any others you may have in an envelope to bring with you to the event. In it, drop some of your business cards, promo postcards and of course a supply of Show Biz Cards.

Step 6: E-mail the RedCarpetTipSheet.com link to any other cast & crew that are attending and tell them to also prep this in advance.

Once You Arrive: What To Do...

Now, when you arrive at the red carpet event and are checked-in, give the Red Carpet Tip Sheet to the event publicist or coordinator just before you step on the carpet. They’ll either put it over their marker board or they’ll announce you on the red carpet holding it so that the media can attach your name and face to the photos, interviews, etc.

This Red Carpet Tip Sheet will save so much time since the event publicist or coordinator will not have to struggle with writing down your name and what you are promoting at this event.

In Closing...

Thanks to the Red Carpet Tip Sheet, the media now knows:

  • What you look like & the correct spelling of your name (so they can properly tag your name/photo on their website).
  • What you are promoting.
  • Your website address (so they can e-mail you a link to the red carpet event footage/images)

Utilizing the Red Carpet Tip Sheet can:

  • Help you create relationships (as you are helping things run smoothly).
  • Help in conversation starting inside the event (as the Red Carpet Tip Sheet will assist people with discovering what your name is while on the carpet before hand).
  • Help your online ranking (now that your name is attached to your image).

Give this handy tool at RedCarpetTipSheet.com a try and let us know what you think — and while you are at it, don’t you have an event to get Red Carpet Ready for?
