Never wait until the pageant to break in your news shoes.

First make sure you are really comfortable in them and that you look comfortable walking in them. You might even ask someone to video tape you just to make sure. If your shoes are too high and you look like you are walking around on stilts, swap them for a pair you really can walk in.

Then wear these shoes in advance of the pageant. Walk up and down some stairs, walk on hardwood and walk on carpeting. You might even take a nail file to the bottom just to scuff the sole a little to give you some traction. No one wants to slip and fall on stage.
